Will Plastic Surgery Make You More Confident? Research Says Yes

Confidence and self-esteem come from different places for each individual. Some people believe if they are beautiful, they are confident; others believe if they are smart, they possess self-confidence. Each person is correct since we are all unique individuals.

There are times when an individual needs help with their self-esteem, and that also comes in many different forms.  Learning new things, like taking a class, could help with enriching your brain, and plastic surgery could helping people gain aesthetic confidence.

The question is, will plastic surgery makes someone more confident?

Before The Knife

Many times, an individual who is not happy with their looks will try different options. From new hairstyles to classes in etiquette, as well as changing their group of friends, and sometimes these simple changes work. Other times, these types of changes seem to make the individual sadder and more determined to find lasting change.

The saying “happiness comes from within” does not always work for everyone. Since happiness means different things to different people, having a smaller nose, fuller cheeks, or a chiseled chin can be a mood booster for many.

Why Choose Plastic Surgery

There are a number of reasons to go under the knife. Each person has a different, and a valid reason for choosing plastic surgery. The first and most important reason would be to correct a medical condition. Next would be to adjust a physical flaw. Many women, and several men, do not like what they see in the mirror day after day.

A certified plastic surgeon can help an individual like what they see each day in the mirror. The benefits of self-esteem have been studied by several research groups in the past. The basic principle of plastic surgery to boost self-esteem is that if a person is happy with their looks, they will be happier and more confident in other areas of their life.

The Cost of Change

Before you get your hopes up and decide to get a nose job or a facelift is the right path for you, you will need to do some research. If you are not independently wealthy, you will need to see if your medical insurance will cover all or some of the costs.

When you have an initial consultation with a certified plastic surgeon, they or someone in their office will be able to go over cost options with you. There is also a person in every office that specializes in insurance groups and will be happy to help you look up your policy and see what is and is not covered.

Psychological Review

Before obtaining a surgical procedure to change your look, even a small change, the plastic surgeon may ask you to consult a psychologist. There could be underlying issues that you have not addressed that could help boost your self-esteem naturally. Of course, the decision to cosmetically change your looks is up to you and your surgeon.

You may not like the way you look, and you have every right to change things, but you should consider other options before going under the knife. Talk with your surgeon and then take a little time to decide.
