4 Tips To Help Your Eco-Friendly Resolutions

In this article, you’ll learn and discover 4 tips to help your eco-friendly resolutions.

The new decade is finally here, and with the start of a new year comes many New Year’s Resolutions. The start of a year is a great time to commit to your new goals, such as getting in shape, eating healthier, or living a greener lifestyle. For those hoping to pursue more eco-minded resolutions this year, here are a few tips to get you started.

Choose Food Carefully

When going green for the new year, what you eat matters more than you may think. Your diet can have a surprisingly large carbon footprint. Meat requires large amounts of land and resources to produce, and that’s without discussing the treatment of animals by the meat industry as a whole. If possible, try to cut down on just how much meat you eat on a day-to-day basis. There’s no need to go fully vegetarian or vegan unless you want, but eating less meat can also be better for your health. The 2015 to 2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that adults consume 1.5 to 2 cups of fruits and 2 to 3 cups of vegetables per day. When possible, look for locally sourced organic produce to include in your eco-friendly cooking.

Make Simple Swaps At Home

For those who want to go green without major lifestyle changes, there are plenty of little things you can do day-to-day to reduce your carbon footprint. Try swapping out traditional lightbulbs for LED options. Additionally, be careful how you print out any items from your computer; some fonts can help you save ink. Times New Roman takes 27% less ink than Arial, according to Consumer Reports. Small changes like how you print items and how you light up your home can add up to a significant difference in how eco-friendly your lifestyle is.

Research Reusable Alternatives

How many items throughout your day do you use once and then throw away? From plastic utensils to single-use plastic wrap, many items are meant to be thrown away after just one use. While this may seem convenient, all this plastic usually ends up going to landfills and harming the environment. Instead, look for reusable alternatives to your most frequently used disposables. The more you can reuse, the less you’ll end up wasting.

Don’t Go Green Alone

Sticking to your New Year’s Resolutions can be a challenge, especially when you’re attempting to tackle your resolutions alone. The more help you have from a supportive community, the easier it will be to go green and stay green. If you don’t have a group of friends who are committed to going green with you, see if you can find a group on social media to support you. With over two billion users each month, Facebook is definitely the largest social platform today. On there, you’ll find many groups you can join to find and share tips on going green. Having a support network will help you commit to a green lifestyle.

Going green for the new year can be tricky, but these tips will help you find a good place to start. What are your eco-friendly New Year’s Resolutions, and how do you plan to stick to them during 2020?
