10 Foods That Promote Hair Growth

There are many food choices that can help to promote hair growth for both men and women.  Here are my 10 choices:

ORGANIC FOOD

Foods to Prevent Hair Loss: Organic foods

Choose these foods because they’re free of chemicals. Chemicals can act as endocrine disrupters interfering with hair growth.

PUMPKIN SEEDS

Foods to Prevent Hair Loss: Pumpkin seeds

They are also an excellent source of vitamins A, B6, and C. In addition, the seeds contain beneficial nutrients like zinc, magnesium, calcium, and iron. Perhaps most important to those suffering from hair loss, the seeds contain cucurbitin, a unique amino that may be responsible for pumpkin seeds’ effects on hair growth.  Research has also shown that zinc deficiency is linked to hypothyroidism and hair loss.

WILD CAUGHT FISH

Foods to Prevent Hair Loss:  Wild-caught fish

Wild-caught fish like salmon are high in omega-3 fats, which decrease inflammation while supporting hair growth and hair thickening.  This food is known to nourish hair follicles and stimulate new growth.

GREEN TEA

SUPER SEEDS

Chia, flax, and hemp seeds are high in fiber and healthy fats that can help aid hair growth. According to scientists, flax seeds are absolutely rich in vital nutrients, such as proteins, minerals (calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, etc.), and vitamins (especially vitamin E). It makes them a superfood for hair.

SALMON

Foods to Prevent Hair Loss: Salmon

This fish is loaded with strong hair supporters like vitamin D and protein, and it also contains omega-3 fatty acids that promote hair growth by keeping your scalp healthy. Hair is a protein fiber (as are nails), which means you need to eat protein to grow new strands and keep the existing ones strong. Protein is also required to produce keratin, a key structural component of hair. A good choice is ma marine-based protein like salmon, which has been shown to boost hair health in women thanks to its omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin content.

caffine

Foods to Prevent Hair Loss: Caffeine

It’s not actually a food, but caffeine has been shown to spur hair growth. According to research, caffeine stimulates hair shafts and helps them grow faster, by damping down the effects of DHT, a substance that infamously slows hair growth.

honey

Foods to Prevent Hair Loss: Honey

When used as a topical treatment, honey can improve the look of thinning hair. In a study of patients experiencing seborrheic dermatitis, which includes scaling, itching, and hair loss, those who applied a solution of 90% honey and 10% water to their scalp every other day for 4 weeks reported an improvement in hair loss at the end of the study.

spinach

Foods to Prevent Hair Loss: Spinach

One study found that women with hair loss have significantly lower iron and vitamin D2 levels than age-matched controls. Spinach is a good bet because it’s rich in iron and high in vitamin C, which aids in iron absorption. Toss a spinach salad with hardboiled eggs or mushrooms, both of which are loaded with vitamin D, to give yourself the best shot at slowing hair loss.
