3 Careers for Anyone Interested in Health and Fitness

A job in health and fitness can offer several great benefits, including the chance to pursue a career you’re genuinely passionate about and gain fantastic job satisfaction. Fortunately, the health and fitness industry is extremely diverse and offers many different roles within a wide variety of settings. This makes it possible for people with an interest in health and fitness to pursue a career that will suit their skills, interests, and abilities. To inspire you, here are three careers for anyone interested in health and fitness.

1. Nurse

Nurses play a significant role in the healthcare industry and are responsible for diagnosing and treating a wide range of illnesses and injuries. Nurses spend a lot of time with their patients and have the opportunity to build strong connections with people from many different backgrounds.

They help others daily and have a hugely positive impact on their patients’ lives. For that reason, nursing is considered to be a highly rewarding career, and most nurses are satisfied in their job role. Other benefits of becoming a qualified nurse include an attractive salary package, excellent job security, and the opportunity to travel with work.

Eligible nurses also have the opportunity to enhance their career prospects by completing online courses and qualifications. For instance, an RN to MS in nursing teaches qualified nurses the expert skills needed to specialize within a chosen area of nursing.

2. Nutritionist

A nutritionist helps people live healthier and happier lives by promoting proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices. Typically, a nutritionist will meet with a client to assess their diet and eating habits. They will then create a customized meal plan based on their client’s fitness goals and medical history. A nutritionist also offers personalized advice to clients on how to improve their overall health through their diet.

Nutritionists are in high demand due to growing health issues such as obesity and diabetes. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities within nutrition are expected to increase by 11% by 2028. This is much higher than the average across all other industries.

The typical route to becoming a qualified nutritionist is to complete a bachelor’s degree, followed by a supervised work placement. Most nutritionists must then become certified in whichever state they wish to practice in. Once qualified, nutritionists can choose to work within various settings, including hospitals, schools, or private practice.

3. Wellness Coach

A wellness coach helps people improve their overall wellbeing and life satisfaction by creating goals to enhance their mental and physical health. Generally, a wellness coach will meet with their clients and create a wellness strategy based on their short-term and long-term health goals.

A wellness coach can help people with various aspects of health and wellbeing, including nutrition, exercise, and mental health. To be successful, a wellness coach must be supportive, empowering, and motivating. The field of wellness coaching is relatively new, so it may be difficult to find an undergraduate degree with this specialism. Most wellness professionals earn a bachelor’s degree in a related field and then gain certification once they have completed relevant work experience.
