Let’s face it; you probably spent a large sum of money on the best skincare products for your skin. So the last thing you want to do is use them incorrectly. If you don’t know how to apply them in the proper order, you won’t be able to get the most out of each product.
Often people keep changing products because they don’t work for them. But, this can also be because of the product not being applied correctly. This is where the art of layering skin care products is needed.
So take a look at these 8 steps to get your money’s worth and to layer products like a pro.
Step 1: Cleanse
(Cleansing the face)
Before applying anything, your face must be clean and fresh. The primary purpose of using a cleanser is to get rid of dirt and oil from your face. Some cleansers contain active ingredients that will help to brighten your face and fight acne. This should always be the first step in your routine.
Step 2: Toner
Skipping toner is like typing a document and forgetting to save it. All the efforts you put into cleansing will be pointless. Some residual dirt may remain even after cleansing. A toner is required to clean your face thoroughly and minimize pores. Use a cotton pad and swipe the toner on your face. Make sure you chose a toner that has hydrating properties.
Step 3: Special creams
Next, you need to target your problem areas. There are creams designed to treat specific skin problems such as wrinkles, acne, scars, enlarged pores or pigmentation. So grab your problem targeting cream and apply this after you have used the toner.
Step 4: Serum
Serum should always be applied to the skin while it’s still damp. This will help seal in moisture. Also, while purchasing a serum, lookout for ingredients that will benefit your skin type. Some of the ingredients to keep an eye out for a white tea that helps calm redness, peptides for firmness, hyaluronic acid for hydrating and Vitamin C to lighten skin.
Step 5: Eye Cream
(Applying cream under the eyes)
The next step is to apply eye cream. Ideally, this should be applied before using moisturizer. In case you apply the moisturizer first, it will end up under your eyes. There is nothing wrong with this, but the eye cream will be less effective.
Step 6: Moisturize
Even if your skin is oily, you must never opt out of using a moisturizer. It not only protects your skin but, also gives it a youthful glow. Using a moisturizer regularly makes skin softer and more elastic. While using it, massage it in an upward motion. Moisturizer and sunscreen must be the last products you use before applying make-up.
Step 7: Sunscreen
Even if it’s chilly outside do not skip using sunscreen. Some moisturizers come with built-in sun protection. But, most of these are not adequate for a full day. So it’s best that you use a separate sunscreen that has a minimum SPF of 30. Also, use a broad-spectrum sunblock that shields your skin from both UVB and UVA radiations. Don’t forget to apply it on your neck as well.
Step 8: Make-up
Once you have applied the sunscreen, wait for at least 10 minutes before you apply make-up.
- Apply a thin layer of foundation for a natural look
- Next, to give your face, some extra coverage use a concealer. It works efficiently on blemishes, under-eye circle, and red spots
- Add some color to the cheeks by applying some cream blush
- Then you can use an eyebrow pencil to thicken your brows. Always use a sharp pencil to draw a fine line
- Apply mascara carefully without smearing it
- Finally, use a lip liner followed by some lipstick and lip gloss
The basic rule is starting off from the thinnest product and then moving on to the thickest. You must let each product settle into the skin before applying the next one.
Today, there are innumerable beauty and skincare products available to Fix Your Skin. But, when it comes to applying them, it is best to follow the steps mentioned above to get the best results.
