Stacey Chillemi: David, please tell us a little about yourself and your background prior to creating the Innovet.
Dave Louvet: I’m a biochemist by trade and have always had a passion for helping pets. When my best friend, Matt, wanted to start a company I jumped on board to help research, develop and design anything and everything that we wanted to work on.
Stacey Chillemi: Tell us a little about you company Innovet to give the readers an idea of how you pet company is different than most pet supply companies.
Dave Louvet: Innovet was founded by a black Labrador named Maximus. He’s an extraordinary intelligent dog which made things like baths or medicating particularly challenging. One day he developed a really bad ear infection and Max wouldn’t let anyone near his ears and he’d run into the darkest and most remote places in the house when he smells the meds or hears the word “ear cleaning”.
After multiple consults, only 2 options remained: 1. Surgery which would lead him to be deaf or 2. Find some way to get cleaner and medicine into his ears daily to remove buildup and infection. Matt had chosen the second option. We developed a tool to accurately deliver the ear meds deep into the ear in just seconds and it even functions in the dark while your pet moves and shakes their heads around. From there, we kept expanding and growing our portfolio from ear cleaners, dryers, oral care and tear stains. Good thing Matt didn’t choose number one because Maximus eventually went blind.
Stacey Chillemi: We heard you came out with a new product called PurEyes. Can you tell us a little about it?
Dave Louvet: PurEyes is a natural tear stain that works at the root of the problem by removing the bacteria infection and contains an astringent natural chemical to dry the area to prevent bacteria growth. This is the first product of its kind because it uses natural ingredients that are safe to use and doesn’t use antibiotics, which is NOT approved by the FDA for domestic pets. You simply use a cotton pad, add some solution to it and wipe your pets tear stains and remove the debris once to twice a week until the tear stains are removed. Noticeable results are usually seen within 30 days, unlike antibiotics
Stacey Chillemi: What Causes Excess Tearing?
Dave Louvet: Tear stains are caused when the facial hair becomes wet by excessive tearing from the tear ducts. The wet moist area then becomes a feeding ground for the red yeast to grow.
Stacey Chillemi: What Causes the Staining?
Dave Louvet: The staining is Red yeast that stains the hair follicle a red-brownish color.
Stacey Chillemi: Who would benefit the most from PurEyes?
Dave Louvet: All pets that develop tear stains could benefit from this product. It’s super easy to use. You don’t have to give your pet an antibiotic pill that can likely wreak havoc on their immune system and it’s fast. My dog Gordo, an English bulldog, who’s on the back of the bottle, loves it and he hates being medicated or groomed.
Stacey Chillemi: The product name, logo and iconic shape are all so well integrated into the purpose and function of Innovet. Please tell us a bit about the branding process of your product.
Dave Louvet: Branding is a very tricky thing, especially with our products. We want to make sure the title speaks out to everyone about what the product actually does in a friendly way. For this case, PurEyes stands for Clean and beautiful eyes. Using the Latin word of eyes would have been just a little too confusing for everyone to understand.
Stacey Chillemi: What is the mission and vision for Innovet?
Dave Louvet: Our mission at Innovet is to bring affordable easy pet care to all owners. We know how difficult it is to medicate pets and know how costly vet bills can add up, so we want to help families be proactive in treating their pet before that happens. It’s amazing how a simple routine from cleaning your pets’ ears, teeth, grooming can save you in the long run if you just spend a few minutes each week taking care of each issue before they become a huge problem.
Stacey Chillemi: What do you hope to accomplish in the next 3 years?
Dave Louvet: Hopefully in 3 years we can have all our products in more major box stores for everyone to use.
Stacey Chillemi: Where can people find PurEyes, if they want to learn more about it or if they are interested in purchasing it?
