Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie Bowl

I have a huge smoothie for breakfast almost every day, but I’ve never made a smoothie bowl before and I’m in love! This kind of smoothie is served in a bowl (instead of a jar or a glass) with fruits, nuts or seeds on top and is also thicker.

I don’t make or buy peanut butter very often because is really addictive and I can’t stop to eat until the jar is empty. I prefer homemade peanut butter because is healthier and tastes better, in addition, it’s expensive and hard to find here in Spain. Anyway, if you don’t like peanut butter, use another kind of nut butter or remove it.

This smoothie bowl is made with carob powder, but you can also use unsweetened cocoa powder instead. Carob powder is healthier because is caffeine free, but I think cocoa tastes better.

Feel free to use another sweetener instead of the dates, or other plant milk or even water or coconut water instead of the rice milk. Make your own homemade plant milk, they’re usually cheaper and taste amazing.

I used 4 bananas to make the smoothie, 2 of them were frozen. If your blender isn’t powerful, you can use only regular bananas or just blend the rest of the ingredients before adding the chopped frozen bananas.

There are so many toppings you can add fresh fruit, dried fruits, nuts, seeds, chocolate or peanut butter. I added a sliced banana, shredded coconut, chopped chocolate (chocolate chips work also great), peanuts and sesame seeds.

In Spain, many kids have a big bowl of store-bought breakfast cereals with cow milk every morning and this is not a healthy and nutritious breakfast. This smoothie bowl is a great alternative and the kids like it because they love chocolate and peanut butter. It’s also a perfect dessert because is similar to a vegan chocolate custard.
