Top Tips for Smooth and Silky Skin

Everybody wants smooth and silky skin, but this is difficult to achieve and particularly when there are so many damaging factors in day to day life. In addition to being healthier, a better complexion can also do wonders for self-esteem and confidence, so it is no surprise that it is such a point of focus for so many people when it comes to health and beauty. This also means that there is a lot of information out there, but not all of it is helpful and many skincare products can actually do more damage than good with harsh ingredients. With this in mind, here are a few healthy tips to get smooth and silky skin which will reel back the years.

Water

Do you drink plenty of water

It is the easiest (and cheapest!) way to improve your complexion, yet many people underestimate the effects of being properly hydrated. Water flushes out toxins and waste which can contribute to a range of blemishes, so aim to drink between 8 to 10 glasses of water every day and regularly wash your face (gently) with water. In addition to healthier skin, being properly hydrated brings a host of other health benefits too.

Exercise & Diet

Exercises

Unsurprisingly, a healthy diet and regular exercise will also allow for a healthier complexion. Regular exercise, no matter what type, will circulate oxygen and release sweat which removes dirt and impurities. Your diet should consist of lots of fruit and vegetables and it is wise to avoid sugary drinks, alcohol and carbonated drinks.

Home Remedies

lemon juice

There are all kinds of home remedies that people have discovered through trial and error. A few of the best home remedies that you can use on your skin include honey, lemon juice, tomatoes, tea tree oil, cucumber, mint papaya and aloe vera (not all at once!).

Sleep

sleep

Lack of sleep decreases blood flow to the skin surrounding the face which leads to tired and drab skin. It can also lead to an increase in stress hormones that can increase the severity of various conditions like acne. A good night’s sleep, meanwhile, can be rejuvenating and boost the blood flow to the skin. Try to get 7 to 9 hours of sleep at night – if you struggle to fall asleep, try to stop using any devices before bedtime and instead read a book.

Identify Your Skin Type

The type of products that will work best for you will depend on your complexion. Determine if you have oily, dry or normal skin and then look for products which can help.

Toner & Moisturizer

After washing your face with water and a cleanser for your particular skin type, use a toner to get rid of any residue which is left behind (which can lead to acne). The toner will also prepare the skin for moisturizing, which is a fantastic way to rejuvenate and freshen up your skin (be sure to find one for your skin type).

Exfoliating

Exfoliating is one of the most important processes of improving complexion, so be sure to make it an important part of your beauty routine. It removes dead skin cells on the outermost surface for a smoother, healthier and fresher look. There are a few different methods, but will generally involve using a product and gently scrub the skin with a brush or similar item.

Limit Sun Exposure

sun protection

You may want to lounge around in the sun to get a tan, but this is actually very dangerous and sun exposure is one of the biggest contributors to skin damage and aging. Try to sit in the shade, avoid midday sunshine and wear clothes that will cover your skin. You should also be aware that this is a year-round factor to consider as UV rays can cause damage throughout the year.

Dermatologist

A dermatologist is a medical professional specializing in skin who will be able to diagnose and treat diseases of the skin, hair, and nails. If you are having trouble with your complexion then book an appointment to see if they have any recommendations.

Procedures

There are various procedures that you can undergo which will deliver fast and lasting results. One example is Youth Lab, which is a facial rejuvenation procedure which uses advanced technology to cleanse, exfoliate, extract and hydrate the skin while also protecting it. This procedure is proving to be popular as it delivers immediate results and is without the downtime and risks you find with other procedures.

Steam

Steam your face once a week by boiling a pot of water and add mint leaves or lemon before removing from the heat. Keep a towel on your head as you lower your face onto the steam (don’t get too close to the water!). Steaming will open up pores and remove impurities deep down the skin, plus it can also boost blood circulation for healthier cells.

Avoid Popping Spots

Everyone hates spots and pimples and you may be tempted to pop them (especially if you are heading out for the day), but this will actually make it a lot worse by leading to blemishes and inflammation – it could even lead to scarring. Instead, be patient and avoid touching your face (a good practice in general as this can leave dirt and oil on the face).

The secret to smooth and silky skin is making it a priority. There are obvious factors which everyone should be doing, like drinking water, getting plenty of sleep and a healthy diet, but there are also all kinds of products and treatments that are highly worthwhile. It is also important to note that it should be viewed as a long-term process as you will need to maintain a good skincare regime (and particularly as you age). Although it can require a lot of work, it is worth it in the long run as a smooth and silky skin is healthy and will also do wonders for confidence and self-esteem. If you are having serious problems with your skin it is best to see a specialist who can recommend the best treatment, but the above are all good practices too.
