No ― Hemp Can’t Get You High

During the last century, there has been much focus on cannabis, so much so that people often mistake the different plant strains as all causing psychoactive responses. With all the buzz around states legalizing medical marijuana and the federal government decriminalizing hemp, people are unsure of just what to believe about their similarities and differences, which you can read more here now. As you will learn from experts, no, hemp can’t get you high because of its low tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) levels.

Hemp and Marijuana Differences

Hemp and marijuana are both strains of the Cannabis Sativa species. They both interact with the endocannabinoid system, which is similar to the response of the body’s neuroreceptors and transmitters. Hemp and marijuana both naturally produce cannabinoids, which have reputations as promoting therapeutic benefits, but it is tetrahydrocannabinol levels in cannabis strains that differ greatly. Cannabidiol (CBD) products made from Industrialized hemp will have less than 0.3 percent of THC.

Cannabis plants have two primary ingredients: THC and CBD. THC causes a high while CBD does not, although you will feel relaxed and comfortable. Researchers are unsure of why THC and CBD, both cannabidiols, react differently. What some people experience will be different from others, so it’s essential to establish threshold levels.

How THC Affects the Body

THC is a chemical compound that causes a high and mimics the cannabinoid chemicals produced in the human body. THC binds and activates the body’s cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) that are responsible for behaviors like one’s thought process, sensory, focus, memory, concentration, desire, organization, and physical and psychological response.

As these cannabinoids are in the brain and body, CBD causes full mind and body well-being. THC, when introduced, stimulates brain cells and causes the release of dopamine, which is what creates the euphoric high. THC can additionally inhibit the hippocampus’s responses in information processing and recall. Hemp, however, has only trace amounts, so it’s not inhibitive.

CBD, Terpenes & Flavonoids

CBD is a chemical compound found in cannabis strains and extracted to create tinctures, creams, cosmetics, and edibles. It is not psychoactive, so people who consume these products enhance levels of productivity and quality of life. People who also use CBD credit it with overcoming medical ailments and allowing for greater tranquility, calmness, and relaxation.

Hemp and marijuana both have high counts of CBD, terpenes, and flavonoids that experts believe have medicinal properties. High counts of flavonoids also produce antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties often found in plants, fruits, and vegetables, so they are healthy and therapeutic. It is the terpenes and flavonoids that also give cannabis its rich taste and flavor.

Buying Reputable CBD Products

What you need to know is that some hemp seeds naturally create higher CBD counts and, if you buy from non-reputable CBD companies, too much will cause toxicity. Always take the time to ensure that you are buying from a hemp manufacturer that works with certified hemp farmers and procures a third-party laboratory to ensure that products contain less than 0.3 percent of THC.

CBD and THC levels can also differ based on state regulations. Do your homework to ensure that the hemp can’t get you high and that the products you purchase are low count or THC-free.
