5 Ways to Support Your Immune System this Winter

Winter is the worst time of year for people to get sick. When it gets cooler outside you naturally spend more time inside. The lack of sunshine causes the immune system to naturally become weaker and we are more susceptible to catching an infection and becoming ill.

After experiencing the crippling effects of the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic, people should know the importance of keeping your immune system running at peak performance all year long.

Your Immune System is your body’s natural defense against viruses and bacteria that can cause you to be ill. Whenever a foreign object enters your body your immune system instructs your white blood cells to attack and destroy it.

When your immune system is strong it can often respond so efficiently that you never even realize you came in contact with the virus or bacteria in the first place. The goal is to keep your immune system running at that level.

Now you are probably asking how to support your immune system. There are several ways you can keep your immune system running strong all winter long.

Take an Immunotype Supplement

You should be taking an immunotype supplement all year. It can become especially important during the winter months.

As it gets colder we tend to stay in more; this means less time spent in the sun which causes us to be deficient in vitamin D. We can naturally create this nutrient with adequate sun exposure.

Your immunotype supplement will help to fill this gap. It will also contain several other vitamins, herbs, and minerals to keep your immune system in peak shape.

Take time to See Family and Friends

When winter hits and the holidays are over the cold weather can make having to leave the house for anything unnecessary seem very unattractive.

Becoming a recluse can have very negative effects on your mental health. When your mental health suffers so does your immune system, and you become susceptible to disease.

Take the time to have dinner with friends. Meet people for coffee. Most importantly, getting out of your house is good for your mental and immune system health.

Sleep

Make sure to maintain your sleep schedule. You need plenty of restful sleep so your immune system and body can recharge. You can not run on an empty battery. Make sure that you are providing yourself with a sleeping environment that allows for deeply restful sleep. Keep electronics out of the bedroom.

Exercise

Exercise is mandatory for a good immune system to remain healthy. If you do not already have an exercise routine you should talk to your doctor immediately about what would benefit you the most.

It is tempting to skip work-outs in the winter because it is too cold to get out. Do not let yourself skip! Your immune system needs this boost to keep you healthy.

Self Care

Double down on your self-care. Give yourself extra facials and use bath bombs daily. Winter days can be grey and cold which affects your mental health.

Making sure you stay in a positive head-space is necessary to maintain a strong immune system. Make sure to allow time to take care of yourself. This looks different for everyone but you probably know what works best for you.

Treating yourself to a spa day is sure to do the trick. Make sure you remember to use extra moisturizer as winter is very tough on your skin.

In Conclusion

Winter can be a hard season to keep your immune system in peak condition. If you follow the suggestions throughout the whole year you will not have to experience your immune system weakening at any time of the year.
