Know Simple and Affordable Tips for Healthy Bright Skin

Don’t be fooled by those flashy and expensive skincare products you see in cosmetic stores. Most dermatologists would tell you that the difference between a high-end moisturizer and Cataphyll is just in the price. In fact, a study published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology several years ago found that over-the-counter moisturizers were just as effective as prescription creams for certain skin conditions. With that beings said, effective skincare for healthy, glowing, and bright skin boils down to three simple steps: cleanse, moisturize, and protect. To see how you can perform all three steps in a simple and affordable way, keep reading.

Use oils

Use oils to remove makeup

Removing makeup with skin-friendly oils like jojoba, grape seed, and even cold-pressed sunflower oil can help start your cleansing routine the gentlest possible way. These oils may also help dissolve excess sebum in your skin and provide gentle exfoliation as you’re removing your makeup. To make your own oil-based makeup remover, it’s best to mix two different oils recommended for your skin type. Oily skin types should opt for non-comedogenic oils like grape seed and sunflower while dry skin types find that olive oil works best with their skin.

Cleanse with a clay-based cleanser

Clay-based cleansers are much better for your skin than most conventional cleansers that contain soap. Soap-containing products are too drying for anyone’s skin, stripping it of its protective oils which can lead to dryness, flaking, and even premature aging. Instead, choose a cleanser formulated with Amazonian white clay and other gentle ingredients. Optionally, make your own clay cleanser by mixing your favorite clay with oil and lathering emollient.

DIY scrubs

Exfoliate with DIY scrubs

You don’t really need expensive skin exfoliators to achieve smooth and glowing skin. Simple ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen can also do the trick. Lemon, for instance, is rich in vitamin C that can significantly brighten your skin. When combined with sugar that is rich in glycolic acid, you get a cheap but effective DIY exfoliant. You can also make your exfoliating scrubs combining many types of grains ingredients like salt, baking soda, coffee grinds, and cornstarch with brightening ingredients like yogurt, honey, and fruits. Studies on honey show that it was effective in healing wounds as well as acne when applied to the skin.

Keep an eye on skincare ingredients

When choosing a moisturizer or sunscreen, make sure to do your research beforehand. There’s plenty of information online on what ingredients in skincare products work and which ones don’t. For instance, you’ll often see alcohol added to moisturizers for oily skin but studies show that it can be extremely damaging to your skin. On the other hand, some functional ingredients like salicylic acid, hyaluronic acid, ceramides, niacinamide, and vitamins can work wonders on your skin and many are now found in drugstore products at affordable prices. So, focus on the ingredients and don’t think expensive means high quality.

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables

plenty of fruits and vegetables

If you suffer from acne, dry skin, eczema, or any other skin disorder, then changing your diet could help with these common skin issues. Research has long debated whether diet has anything to do with the onset of acne and other skin conditions. As it turns out, diet can affect all parts of our body, including the skin. A diet high in fruits and vegetables will provide you with plenty skin-benefiting nutrients and keep your blood sugar levels stable which was also found to be important for skin health. On the other hand, eating a diet high in saturated fats, refined sugars, and red meat is bound to show on your skin in the worst possible way.

Use Vaseline as a nighttime moisturizer

Vaseline, the popular brand of petroleum-jell products is the secret to Tyra Bank’s eternal beauty. Allegedly, the former supermodel uses the product as her night-time moisturizer. While the idea of putting petroleum jelly on your face may not seem appealing at first, studies on petroleum jelly actually show that it was an effective skin conditioning agent. And if you’re worried about the thick jelly clogging your pores and causing breakouts, don’t be. Petroleum jelly is non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores. Instead, what petroleum jelly does is coat your skin locking in moisture that will leave your skin feeling soft and well moisturized in the morning.

Your habits make a difference

Of course, if you follow these tips but choose to lead an unhealthy lifestyle, your skin is unlikely to notice the difference. Bad habits like excessive drinking, smoking, eating an unhealthy diet, and not getting enough sleep will definitely show on your skin. These habits disrupt normal skin barrier functioning and weaken the immune system causing dryness, inflammation, infections, and generally unhealthy-looking skin. Instead, avoid alcohol and tobacco, get enough sleep, adopt a healthy diet, and consider the benefits of drinking water and your skin will be bound to look great.

Conclusion

Good skin care does not have to involve a huge number of expensive products and lengthy skincare routines. Instead, all you need to do is cleanse your skin with gentle cleansers, use moisturizers preferably with sun protection, and eat a healthy diet to give your skin the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and look radiant. Make sure to follow the simple tips provided her to achieve healthy and bright skin easily.
