What does the supplement yucca do for dogs?
Yucca root is widely used in dog food as well as in other pet foods. It is a herb that is highly nutritive as it is rich in vitamin C, beta-carotene, B vitamins, magnesium, iron, calcium, manganese, protein, niacin, and phosphorus.
How it works
Yucca contains two very beneficial compounds sarsasapogenin and smilagenin. These two compounds work on the mucous membranes of the small intestine. These compounds help with the penetration and absorption of minerals and vitamins. Sarsasapogenin and Smilagenin are know as steroidal saponins (phytosterols) which act as precursors to corticosteroids produced naturally by the body. Steroidal saponins support the immune function of the body, while stimulating and supporting the production of its own corticosteroids and corticosteroid–related hormones. Due to this action, studies conducted on yucca have shown that it may be beneficial and effective for pain and inflammation in conditions such as arthritis. Yucca may also be supportive in stimulating the appetite and may also help reduce the production of urease, which contributes to the unpleasant odors of urine and feces in some dogs.

What I thought of the product
I was very satisfied with the outcome of NHV Yucca: Dietary Supplement for Dogs. I used this product on my two Shih Tzus. One is twelve years old and the other is thirteen years old. Both dogs suffer from inflammation and joint problems. After using it for a week I Noticed that the dogs were more active. My one dog Rocco who has Lyme began walking up the stairs again. For the longest time, he refused to because of the pain in his back legs. I am very pleased with this product and I will continue to use it on my dogs. NHC Yucca came quickly, it was packaged well and as I mentioned earlier I was impressed on how well it worked.
