Dave Louvet: Renowned Founder of Innovet – the Creator of the Phenomenally Successful “BioPel – Natural Pest Defense Spray for Pets”
Americans spend more than $1 billion each year on products designed to kill fleas and ticks on household pets, especially dogs and cats. While some of these products are safe, others leave harmful chemical residues on our pets’ fur and in our homes. These chemicals are highly hazardous to animals and humans, can damage the brain and nervous system, and cause cancer.
The April 2009 paper Poison on Pets II details a first-of-its-kind study by NRDC showing that high levels of pesticide residue can remain on a dog’s or cat’s fur for weeks after a flea collar is put on an animal.
Residue levels produced by some flea collars are so high that they pose a risk of cancer and damage to the neurological system of children up to 1,000 times higher than the EPA’s acceptable levels. Dave Louvet is the CEO and founder of Innovet. Innovet is a medical technology company with offices in Gardena and Manhattan Beach, CA that serves Veterinary clinics using only natural pet and people safe products.
Stacey Chillemi: Hi David! Can you start by telling us a little about yourself and your business?
Dave Louvet: I m a chemist by trade and went to school at UCSB with my best friend, and founder Matt Terrill. We started Innovet Pet Product due to Maximus (black Labrador) constant health issues. Almost all of our products were designed for him.
Stacey Chillemi: Recently, you came out with a new product called BioPel – Natural Pest Defense Spray, can you tell us a little about it?
Dave Louvet: BioPel spray is our newest product and part of our BioPel line. As most pets and pet parents know getting rid of fleas, ticks and tapeworms is not an easy approach.
The flea drops can be dangerous, particularly to smaller pets from their neurotoxic effects and they don’t always work especially if insects become immune to the chemicals. We want our pet parents to understand that flea control is not just a simple solution of giving your pet a miracle pill to get rid of everything and that flea control can be done naturally with a simple 4 step approach.
From washing your pet once a week or bi-weekly, Secure the perimeter by spraying and maintaining your yard down, cleaning the house and spraying your pet with BioPel spray whenever he leaves the controlled perimeter and watching your pet’s health by giving them the best nutrition and vitamins that will promote a strong immune system and kill insects from the inside out.
Stacey Chillemi: What is the most important thing that dog lovers should know about flea and tick products on the market today?
Dave Louvet: What most pet parents probably don’t know about getting rid of fleas is that it is not going to be solved by one line of defense.
Stacey Chillemi: What do you recommend as the safest way for dog lovers to help protect their pups from fleas and ticks?
Dave Louvet: The safest way to keep your pets healthy and free of insects is to be more active with your pet’s life. Cleaning the house, bathing them more frequently, watch their diets and give them more food and vitamins that are known to repel insects.
Stacey Chillemi: Children are particularly at risk from many of the pesticides they sell on the market because their neurological and metabolic systems are still developing. They are also more likely than adults to put their hands in their mouths after petting an animal, and so are more likely to ingest the hazardous residues. How is your Bug Spray for pets better and safer than the over-the-counter products they sell in the stores?
Dave Louvet: Great question. Our product is 99 percent natural. Even though natural doesn’t always mean safe (for example, Pyrethrin’s are known to cause seizures) however, all our ingredients are considered inert by the EPA and listed on the natural ingredients list as safe repellents.
Stacey Chillemi: How important is it to use a natural pet spray for your dogs and cats?
Dave Louvet: Natural insect spray is a big plus in helping maintain an insect-free environment when crossing perimeters of a clean environment to an outdoor environment that’s not controlled. Whether it’s washing your pet or natural insect spray. I would rather wash my pet only once a week instead of daily because of his walks.
Stacey Chillemi: Due to chemical concerns, many flea/tick manufacturers are turning to herbal oil-based products. Are these products safer?
Dave Louvet: I wouldn’t consider oil-based flea and tick control safer, especially with cats since they process essential oils differently. You have to pay more attention to your pet when applying any type of chemicals natural or synthetic. Always pay attention to your pet’s behavior after medicating. What’s happens to be safe for one pet may be toxic to the next?
Stacey Chillemi: How can your product BioPel – Natural Pest Defense Spray help dogs and cats?
Dave Louvet: BioPel spray is great and safe for both dogs and cats and can be sprayed almost anywhere except for the eyes of course. It’s safe around food as well.
Stacey Chillemi: What are the benefits of INNOVET: BioPel – Natural Pest Defense Spray?
Dave Louvet: The benefits of BioPel spray are that you can carry it with you anywhere. You can spray it and go as you please (ex. if you’re taking your dog for a quick walk) you can take out BioPel quickly and easily spray it on your dog with the reassurance that your pet is safe from any harmful insects. Spray the underside and coat before you go. If there are ants or insects in the house use this product instead of the chemicals that you will have to breathe in after spraying.
Stacey Chillemi: Where can people find Innovet’s BioPel – Natural Pest Defense Spray if they want to learn more about it or if they are interested in purchasing it?
