Understanding CBD Isolate and Its Uses

A long time ago, there weren’t a lot of creative (or legal) ways to obtain the benefits of cannabis. People could only smoke it or eat in the form of a weed brownie. But with the advancements in science and human innovation, not only has marijuana evolved in its forms and application, but it is now also being used for medical reasons as well.

In many states you can legally buy CBD.

You have probably heard the term cannabidiol or CBD going around and being infused into everything, it seems. From food to beauty products, these all claim to provide the medical benefits of CBD in one form or another. CBD is more than a buzzword, and there is a lot of truth in the claims that many make about its benefits.

What CBD Isolate Is

Perhaps you’ve also heard about people using CBD isolate as well. And you might be scratching your head and wondering: “what is CBD isolate?” Simply put, CBD isolate is cannabidiol in its purest form. It is created by separating the CBD from all the other components of the marijuana plant and distilled into CBD isolate crystals or powder.

Of the two, CBD isolate powder is less refined and more versatile than the crystals. The powder can be ground up and used in different products. Meanwhile, CBD isolate crystals can only be dabbed.

If you are wondering why there is also a difference between CBD isolate and THC distillate, it is simply because CBD isolate will not induce a buzz or make you high. THC distillate does have that effect, which is why it is only distributed by licensed dispensaries to card-carrying medical marijuana users. The reason why CBD isolate will not give you that same effect is because it contains little to no THC, which is mostly removed in the isolation process.

Uses of CBD Isolate

As previously mentioned, CBD isolate has many uses, each one with a corresponding benefit and effect. While this list is far from exhaustive, here are some popular uses for CBD isolate:

Topical treatment

If you struggle with chronic pain or are simply recovering from an injury, pain relief is one of the most popular benefits of CBD isolate. You can dilute some of the powder in a skin-safe carrier oil like coconut oil, sunflower oil, or extra virgin olive oil to create your own massage oil or pain ointment. You can also use these oil infusions to create your own medicated soap to aid with recovery and pain relief.

Simply rub the oil or soap on your skin to use it. The CBD isolate will help soothe pain, reduce swelling, and soften your skin in the process as well.

Food ingredients and condiments

You can purchase CBD isolate powder and incorporate it into your cooking. It’s one of the popular ways to maximize its benefits. You can add it to the pastries that you are baking like brownies, pies, cookies, and more. For no-bake dishes like pudding, ice cream, or sauces, you can simply add it to the mixture. If you’re simply preparing a drink, you can just add the powder and stir it into your coffee or tea.

If you’re worried about that distinctive cannabis taste and smell altering how your food will taste, it will only taste as strong as the carrier oil you use for it. CBD isolate powder does not have a strong taste and won’t overpower the flavor of whatever you’re making. So you can enjoy your food and feel the effects after you start digesting it.

Skin care

2019 saw a rise in popularity for skin care products infused with CBD. This is due to its anti-inflammatory and other skin-healing properties as it has been proven to be effective on acne treatment and other forms of skin conditions. You will often find ready-made serums, face creams, eye creams, body lotions, and facial sprays infused with CBD isolate.

You can purchase products like these from brands like Revolution Beauty, Josie Maran, Kiehl’s, Cannuka, and more. However, you can also make your own by mixing CBD isolate powder into your face creams and lotions at home to reap the same benefits without splurging on new products.

Tinctures

While you can readily and legally buy CBD tinctures from several licensed retailers, there is no reason why you can’t make your own tinctures at home. It’s an easy and discreet way to take it, ideal for people who are new to using CBD or for people who lead busy lifestyles. You simply need to mix a small amount of CBD isolate powder to a teaspoon full of coconut oil and hold the mixture under your tongue for a minute and a half.

The oil and CBD isolate will enter your bloodstream through the sublingual artery and will take effect quickly. Afterward, you can put away your CBD isolate powder, wash the spoon, and go about the rest of your day until your next dose.

In addition to its versatility, CBD isolate is popular because it has few side effects, which is one of its biggest benefits. In this case, one of the most common side effects is getting a dry mouth from using CBD and other cannabis-based products.

However, if you are taking other forms of medication, CBD isolate may interfere with the liver enzymes responsible for the breakdown of certain drugs. It’s best to consult with your doctor before using any product with CBD isolate powder or crystals to avoid any undesirable outcomes.
