Top Hair Loss Remedies: Effective Home Remedies to Combat Hair Loss

Hair loss is a common problem that affects many individuals, both men and women. While there are various causes of hair loss, including genetics, hormones, and medical conditions, there are also several topical home remedies that may help promote hair growth and prevent further hair loss. In this article, we will explore some of the best topical home hair loss remedies that you can try to address this issue.

Hair loss is one of those unfortunate facts of life that a significant number of men will have to contend with during their lifetime. According to the American Hair Loss Association, two-thirds of men will begin to see their locks lose some of their luster by age 35. Once the big 5-0 rolls around, about 85 percent of men will have experienced significant thinning.

Even though hair loss is typically thought of as something that only men are burdened with, plenty of women experience their fair share of follicular challenges. In fact, an estimated 40 percent of hair loss sufferers are female. By the time they reach age 50, roughly half of all women will deal with some pattern hair loss.

Are you suffering from hair loss?  Are you wondering how to regrow your hair naturally? You can use essential oils to make some of the best topical home hair loss remedies.  Here are the top 7 essential oils for hair growth and hair loss.

rosemary oil

Rosemary oil for hair loss remedy

Rosemary essential oil has a powerful effect.  It is one of the top essential oils for enhancing hair thickness and growth. Rosemary oil is believed to increase cellular metabolism that stimulates hair growth. Research published in 2015 even shows that rosemary oil appears to work, as well as minoxidil, a conventional topical hair loss treatment.

It’s one of the freshest and most pungent essential oils with its minty and woodsy scent. Rosemary’s aroma is instantly youthful and deliciously herbaceous.

Rosemary is packed with antioxidants that prevent thinning and even graying hair. It’s another essential oil that promotes blood circulation, perfect for stimulating hair follicles and growth.

Furthermore, essential rosemary oil can help with over-greasy scalps and hair as it reduces sebum production. It also clears pores, which is great for itchy scalps and relief of dandruff.

As a precaution: It is not recommended to use rosemary essential oil when you are pregnant or if you suffer from epilepsy.

Homemade Remedy:

To use rosemary essential oil for hair growth:

  • Heat 3 tsp of olive oil
  • Blend in 10 drops of rosemary essential oil
  • Use this blend as a hot oil treatment by blending it evenly over your scalp and through your hair
  • Wrap your hair in a towel that has been dipped in hot water
  • Leave it on for 30 minutes, then shampoo it out
  • It’s recommended to do this about once a month

Spikenard Oil

Spikenard oil for hair loss remedy

Spikenard oil is known for promoting hair growth, retaining its natural color, and slowing down the graying process. A 2011 study published in Pharmacognosy Magazine measured spikenard oil’s ability to stimulate hair growth. The crude extract, fractions, and two of the isolated compounds were tested for their hair growth activity for the study. Hair growth was tested on female Wistar rats that had hair removed in a four-centimeter square area before the study began.

The results indicate that spikenard oil positively responded to hair growth promotion activity; the crude spikenard extracts were more effective than the pure compounds. Because the isolated compounds were effective in different ways, when they acted together in the extract, hair growth resumed quickly. When using spikenard extract, there was a 30 percent reduction in the time it looks for the hair to grow back on the tested rats — showing that spikenard can work as a hair loss remedy.

lavender oil

Studies have shown that lavender oil possesses hair growth-promoting effects. In a 2016 animal study, topical application of lavender oil proved to significantly increase the number of hair follicles in female mice. Lavender oil also deepened the depth of hair follicles and thickened the thermal layer.

Lavender oil has antimicrobial properties, and it can be used to combat bacterial and fungal disorders. Some other lavender oil benefits are its ability to soothe the scalp and heal dry skin and hair. Plus, because emotional stress is a factor that can contribute to thinning hair, lavender oil can be used to create a tranquil and stress-free environment.

Homemade Remedy:

To use lavender essential oil for hair growth, blend:

  • 8 – 10 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 4 tsp of a carrier oil
  • Massage the blend into your scalp

  • Wash it out in the morning

Alopecia areata is a common autoimmune skin disease resulting in hair loss on the face and scalp.

Cedarwood is an ideal essential oil for hair growth because it balances the oil-producing glands of the scalp. The warming oil significantly improves blood circulation, which can result in vigorous hair growth. Furthermore, it’s antibacterial and antiseptic which treats fungal problems and dandruff builds up.
