As they travel around for their games, they’re encouraged to bring along things like memory foam pillows and toppers or sleep machines in order to help them get more quality sleep on the road.

While there are many studies backing these enhanced brain functions up, there’s one simple truth. Think about when you wake up after a poor night’s rest. You can’t really concentrate and you’re not productive at work. Think of a day where you get enough rest. You’re active, more productive, and can concentrate on any issue at hand. A good night’s sleep is essential to let your brain recharge and improve your concentration, memory, problem-solving abilities, and overall productivity.
It Prepares You for Quality Social Interactions
Those who find themselves sleep deprived on a normal basis tend to spend less time involved in social interactions. Many will actually avoid them as much as possible. This has been shown to drastically affect a person’s social wellbeing as they’re not capable of interacting effectively with others. Studies have shown that those who are at a lack of sleep have a reduced ability to recognize expressions from those around them. These important social cues are what normally allow us to process emotional information. When we’re tired, we tend to avoid social interactions as our brain doesn’t correctly process this emotional information.

Mental health illnesses including depression and anxiety are highly linked to poor sleep quality. In fact, studies show that 90 percent of those who have depression have poor quality sleep. It’s no wonder that depression and anxiety are more likely when you’re in a sleep deprived state. As you learned above, you withdraw socially, cannot react physically as you could on a full night’s rest, and have difficulty focusing on what you’re doing throughout the day.
Getting quality sleep each and every night is a major contributor to your overall health.
